British Airport workers strike likely to hit holiday travel

LONDON: As the summer holidays are nearer in the UK, thousands of Passengers in the United Kingdom have to face holiday travel difficulties due to Workers at Britain’s No.2 busiest Airport Gatwick will strike for eight days causing cancellations of flights.

 Travellers from Europe are highly affected by these situations, some of the technical issues creating hindrances for travellers across the EU continent. 

More than 900 Gatwick workers, including ground staff, check-in agents and baggage handlers are on strike over a pay dispute for  8 days, ‘‘ Unite Trade Union said’’.

British No. 2 Airport Gatwick, about 48 kilometres south of London, the administration of the Airport said it would support commercial airlines with their contingency plans to ensure as many flights as possible and should operate on scheduled times.

The main concerns as the airport administration said that disputes between airlines and 3rd party contractors including DHL logistics and Menzies Aviation.

Gatwick’s main operational airlines are Easyjet, and British Airways and others are in talks with airport regulators to resolve the disputes.
