In Los Angeles, Five people have lost their lives, and over 100,000 residents have been ordered to evacuate as fierce wildfires rage, fueled by strong winds, rage across the densely populated Greater Los Angeles metropolitan area, including the Hollywood Hills.
In the upscale Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles, approximately 1,000 buildings have been destroyed, according to fire officials. Furthermore another 1,000 structures have been either severely damaged in the foothills near Altadena and Pasadena, north of Los Angles.
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) reported that the fires ignited at 10:30 a.m. local time (18:30 GMT) on Tuesday in Pacific Palisades, scorching nearly 1,200 hectares (about 3,000 acres).
Meanwhile, widespread power outages have left nearly 1.5 million people without electricity, with 957,700 customers affected in Los Angeles County alone, as reported by the website poweroutage.us
